Star Awards 2024 Gala Night: Toasting to the year's finest in local Chinese entertainment
Singapore, 15 April 2024 – Pulsing lights, clinking glasses and thumping beats. Star Awards 2024 (SA2024), Singapore’s biggest celebration of content and talent in the local Chinese entertainment industry, was simultaneously the hottest party in town tonight as its exclusive Gala Night unfurled at Zouk Singapore to spotlight a year of spectacular achievements both in front of and behind the camera.
Hosted by the charismatic duo Xixi Lim and Zhu Zeliang, the upbeat affair saw winners crowned across six Programme Awards and four Creative Achievement Awards, showcasing the exceptional breadth of talent and creativity in the industry. Among the awards handed out was the highly coveted “Best Drama Serial”, which found its deserving winner in All That Glitters 金色大道. In a strong recognition of the blockbuster’s exceptional cinematography and masterful storytelling, its director Wong Foong Hwee 黄芬菲 and scriptwriter Ang Eng Tee 洪荣狄 simultaneously snagged “Best Director (Drama)” and “Best Screenplay (Drama)” respectively, underscoring the exceptional synergy behind the scenes that set the drama apart. On the auditory front, Kim Jae Hoon’s 金在勋 emotionally stirring Wind from the Galaxy 来自星际的风 from Oppa, Saranghae! 欧巴, 我爱你! took home “Best Theme Song” 最佳主题曲, further showcasing the multifaceted artistry involved in creating memorable dramas.
In the realm of variety shows, “Best Entertainment Programme” was claimed by Foodie Trio 三吃客, while “Best Infotainment” Programme” was awarded to Inside Crime Scene S2 狮城奇案之罪案现场. Reflecting shifting patterns in media consumption, the gala also spotlighted excellence in short-form content, with the endlessly engaging #JustSwipeLah #刷一刷 claiming “Best Short-form Entertainment Programme”. Illustrating the rich slate of entertainment programmes and creative forces behind them, Goh Si Jiau 吴仕佼 was named “Best Producer (Entertainment)" for Star Awards 2023 - Awards Ceremony 红星大奖2023 - 颁奖典礼, while Chua Ing Tze 蔡蕴芝 took home “Best Research Writer (Entertainment)” for Curious City S2 小岛国大发现 2. As the ceremony continued to honour the rich tapestry of talent across platforms, Mediacorp LOVE 972’s The Breakfast Quintet 早安! 玉建蔡煌崇 again clinched “Best Radio Programme” in a testament to its unwavering excellence.

Interspersed between winner announcements was a series of performances of “Best Theme Song” contenders, delivered by the cast of nominated dramas themselves. As a lineup of Singapore’s brightest stars, including Tasha Low, Carrie Wong, Romeo Tan, Richie Koh, Desmond Ng, James Seah, Nick Teo, Elvin Ng and Fang Rong took the stage, the industry’s passion and versality were put on full display.

The party is just getting started! Get ready for another surge of glitz and glamour on 21 April, as the SA2024 Live Show lights up The Theatre at Mediacorp. Dedicated to the prestigious Performance and Popularity Awards, this year’s extravaganza will host an electrifying assembly of Singapore’s finest alongside regional icons, including Onew from SHINee, Chao Chuan, Chen Bolin and Charmaine Sheh. Beyond the live show, fans can also look forward to a dazzling Walk of Fame featuring live performances by Nathan Hartono 向洋, Jasmine Sokko 楚晴, Tosh Rock 张智扬 and Desmond Ng 黄振隆, as well as a reimagined Backstage LIVE marathon – now a seven-hour face-off between Team Outcasts 怪咖 and Team SGAG.
Curated highlights of the Gala Night and winner interviews will be available from 16 April via mewatch, the Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel and the official Star Awards website.
