Star Awards 2024 unites rising and reigning stars in a night of celebrations
Singapore, 21 April 2024 – The air was electric, the applause thunderous, and the stars shone like never before at Star Awards 2024 (SA2024), Singapore’s biggest celebration of content and talent in the local Chinese entertainment industry. Themed “Ignited | Inspire | Impact | Influence” (视界幻化 耀眼四方), the annual extravaganza saw rising and reigning stars alike sharing the spotlight as winners are crowned across Performance and Popularity Award categories, making for a stunning celebration of Singapore stories and storytellers amid electrifying performances by regional icons.
Hosted by veteran multi-hyphenate artistes Dennis Chew 周崇庆 and Guo Liang 郭亮, the star-studded show saw blockbuster All That Glitters cementing its position as the biggest winner of SA2024, with cast members Jeremy Chan 田铭耀 and Zhang Ze Tong 张哲通 claiming “Best Actor” and “Best Supporting Actor” respectively. In addition to being named “Best Drama Serial” and its director Wong Foong Hwee 黄芬菲 and scriptwriter Ang Eng Tee 洪荣狄 having taken home “Best Screenplay (Drama)” and “Best Director (Drama)” respectively at the SA2024 Gala Dinner held on 15 April, the highly acclaimed title snagged an impressive total of five wins. Equally commendable were Kym Ng 鐘琴, who was named “Best Actress” for her performance in Till The End 陪你到最后, as well as Aileen Tan 陈丽贞 who clinched “Best Supporting Actress” for her work in SHERO.
On the variety front, famed host Quan Yi Fong 权怡凤 walked away with “Best Programme Host (Entertainment & Infotainment)” for Hear U Out S4 权听你说 4, a strong affirmation of the rigorous benchmarks of excellence she continues to set for the field. Turning to maestros of the airwaves, the inaugural award for “Best Audio Personality” went to Mediacorp LOVE 972 DJ Dennis Chew 周崇庆, whose multi-faceted career exemplifies the versatility of local talent. Zeroing in on tomorrow’s shining stars, Ang Yu Heng Tesla 洪宇恒 received the “Young Talent Award” and Yunis To 卓芳娴 secured “Best Rising Star”, marking them as promising luminaries to keep an eye on.
The prestigious “Special Achievement Award”, also presented amid the night’s glittering array of honours, was bestowed on local entertainment icon Mark Lee 李国煌. The first to receive this special accolade since 2019, Mark accepted the award from Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information Tan Kiat How to roaring applause, a fitting tribute to his storied career and exceptional contributions to the local showbiz scene across four decades. As the ceremony continued to honour trailblazers, veteran artistes Ann Kok 郭舒贤 and Jesseca Liu 刘子绚 received the “All-Time Favourite Artiste” award to roaring cheers, underscoring their enduring popularity.
The ceremony continued to honour artistes who captured the hearts of audiences, which included 94 artistes vying for the “Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artiste” awards, and 42 competing for one of three spots in the category of “Most Popular Rising Star”. This record-breaking tally of hopefuls is reflective of the dynamic growth of the local entertainment industry and underscores Mediacorp’s intent to offer all eligible artistes – from actors and hosts to audio and social media personalities – an opportunity to compete at the polls regardless of domain, mirroring global shifts in consumption patterns and the ascent of multi-hyphenates that increasingly transcend traditional disciplines.
Star Awards, as the definitive platform to honour the crème of the crop in local Chinese entertainment, maintains rigorous and objective standards in mandating that contenders have a significant body of work across Mediacorp platforms in the past year. This approach ensures that all personalities who played an active part in the shaping of a dynamic entertainment industry during the eligibility period for each edition of Star Awards will qualify to vie for the popularity award.
As fans made their voices heard, emerging victorious in the coveted “Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artiste” awards were first-time winners Benjamin Tan 陈丰谚, He Ying Ying 何盈莹, James Seah 谢俊峰 and Xixi Lim 林茜茜, household names Carrie Wong 黄思恬, Desmond Tan陈泂江, Romeo Tan 陈罗密欧 and Yvonne Lim 林湘萍, as well as audio personalities Chen Ning 陈宁, Chen Bi Yu 陈碧玉 and Jeff Goh, all of whom have captivated fans across platforms. Meanwhile, Ayden Sng 孙政, Jernelle Oh 胡煜诗 and Zhang Ze Tong 张哲通 were conferred “Most Popular Rising Stars”, signalling their rise in the public eye and setting the stage for continued growth.
In empowering fans to support their favourite artistes, three MY PICK! awards were also presented during the seven-hour Backstage LIVE marathon. For their exceptional chemistry, stars of the acclaimed series All That Glitters Desmond Tan 陈泂江 and Chantalle Ng 黄暄婷 were declared “Favourite CP”. Also claiming their share of the limelight, Ayden Sng 孙政 bagged the “The Show Stealer” title for his exceptional knack in standing out from the crowd; and Zhang Ze Tong 张哲通was honoured with the “Most Hated Villian” award, having impeccably embodied an antagonist that viewers loved to hate. Meanwhile, Richie Koh 许瑞奇 received the “Bioskin Most Charismatic Award”, while the “Chan Brothers My Star Guide Award” went to Wallace Ang 洪圣安.

Leading the rousing celebrations for nominees and winners alike was K-Pop idol Onew 温流 from iconic boy group SHINee, who doubled up as a performer and award presenter. The theatre resonated with awe as Onew performed moving renditions of You Are My Everything from beloved K-Drama Descendants of the Sun, followed by popular hit Your Scent. Also putting up a riveting performance was Mandopop Rock Icon Chao Chuan 赵传, who brought the stage to life with timeless hits How Could I Tell You That I Love You 爱要怎么说出口 and I Am A Little Bird 我是一只小小鸟, evoking memories of the ambitions, betrayals and friendships that characterised blockbuster All That Glitters.
Adding to the ceremony’s A-list allure were award presenters “Queen of Drama” Charmaine Sheh 佘诗曼 and charismatic actor Chen Bo-lin 陈柏霖. Across a series of show-stopping moments, Charmaine brought her signature poise on stage as she presented the prestigious “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” awards, while Chen Bo-lin held everyone’s gaze through the “Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artiste” announcements, making every moment memorable for winners and audiences alike. Joining the dazzling lineup of presenters was an ensemble of Singapore’s brightest stars including Boon Hui Lu 文慧如, Felicia Chin 陈凤玲, Jeanette Aw 欧萱, Rebecca Lim 林慧玲, Xiang Yun 向云, Xu Bin 徐彬 and Zoe Tay 鄭惠玉, making for a dazzling showcase of camaraderie and artistic passion.
As celebrations spilled beyond the live show, the Walk of Fame held earlier in the evening was also the scene of a series of thrilling performances. Backdropped against the glitz and glamour of red carpets, singer-songwriter Nathan Hartono 向洋 performed a medley of In The Clouds and Electricity 爱超给电; EDM Singer-Producer Jasmine Sokko 楚晴 energised audiences with Terms & Conditions; while hip-hop artist Tosh Rock 张智扬 and vocal powerhouse Desmond Ng 黄振隆 treated audiences to a mesmerising medley of the year’s “Best Theme Song” nominees and Stefanie Sun’s Running 奔. Meanwhile, extended acceptance speeches and fresh gossip were captured in the Backstage LIVE Marathon, which saw Team Outcasts 怪咖 – comprising Xixi Lim 林茜茜, Yan Wei Xiao Er 彦维小二 and Rao Zi Jie 饶梓杰 – and Team SGAG, featuring Shawn Thia 程家颉, Isabelle Quek 郭慧萱and Queenie Lim 林怡萱, face-off in a series of challenges to draw out hidden talents and unexpected stories.
