Star Awards 2025: Walking Through Time Together
Singapore, 20 May 2025 – Star Awards is turning 30, and this celebration is for you. Themed “Walking Through Time Together” (时光同行), Star Awards 2025 (SA2025) is a heartfelt tribute to everyone who has journeyed with the annual awards extravaganza since its inaugural edition in 1994. Set to take place on 6 July at The Theatre at Mediacorp, this milestone edition of Singapore’s biggest celebration of content and talent in the local Chinese entertainment industry promises a dazzling journey through time as we revisit the classics, honour the present and usher in the future.
More than just a show, SA2025 is a grand homecoming that bridges generations. Fans can look forward to rare appearances by beloved stars of yesteryear, as pioneering artistes return to share the spotlight with today’s brightest talents and tomorrow’s rising stars. The celebration kicks off with the Walk of Fame, where stars across different eras will take to the red carpet beside a colossal Star Awards trophy, towering at 30 times its original size. And for a little friendly competition, viewers will play fashion police as they vote for the evening’s Best Dressed via on-screen interactive polls, bringing a new level of interactivity to the festivities.
As the spotlight turns to the live show, expect the theatre to be transformed into a shared space of memories and endless possibilities. In a historic first, Mediacorp has extended invitations to all All-Time Favourite Artistes for a grand on-stage reunion. Joining them in this elite circle are new inductees, Yvonne Lim and Pornsak, serendipitously completing a symbolic thirty. Coupled with sweeping visuals and a live orchestra bringing iconic theme songs to life, the show is set to bring three decades of storytelling into one unforgettable night. Beyond the stage, the celebrations spill over to the Backstage LIVE commentary marathon and the Post-Show Party, marking its long-awaited return since 2019. From candid winner moments to exclusive interviews and backstage reactions, fans can stay immersed long after the final trophy is handed out.

While fans can expect a night full of surprises, Star Awards continues to stay true to its mission: to celebrate and honour the talents who have made the greatest impact on screen, on air, and in the hearts of audiences. With the Creative Awards set to take centre stage at the Screen Awards this August, SA2025 will see 18 awards presented across the following categories:

While nominees of Programme and Performance Awards are determined by an expert panel and judged by a group of industry veterans and established media practitioners, Popularity Awards “Most Popular Male/Female Artiste” and “Most Popular Rising Star” are qualification-based – all artistes who meet the stated criteria will be included in the race for public votes. Results of the vote, as verified by professional auditors, will make up 80% of the final results for the awards, with the remaining 20% determined by the Popularity Survey, which is conducted by an accredited market research company and reflects the views of various age groups across Singapore.
From SA2025, the eligibility criteria for the “Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artiste” awards – dedicated to artistes with more than five years of experience – have been refined in accordance with evolving industry trends and to better reflect the dynamic relationship between artistry and popularity. For the first time, artistes who are nominees of any Performance Award will automatically qualify to run for the Popularity Award in the same year. This move honours the link between artistic excellence and audience support seen time and again in past winners, as standout performances win both critical acclaim and a loyal following.
Outside of performance nominations, artistes can also qualify by maintaining a meaningful presence across Mediacorp platforms, which continues to serve as the objective and transparent basis for determining eligibility. In this, one pathway involves having served as the lead or main host in a series with at least two episodes, underscoring the weight and visibility that comes with anchoring a serialised title. Alternatively, artistes may also qualify by accumulating a total of at least 13 episodes in a combination of roles – whether leading or supporting – across programmes and/or one-off specials, such as telemovies and countdown shows. Designed in keeping with trends in content formats and programme lengths, the threshold upholds the rigour and prestige of the awards while embracing an inclusive view of artistic impact.
Meanwhile, while the “Most Popular Rising Star” award remains dedicated to artistes with five years or less of experience, artistes who received the award three times will be automatically elevated to the “Top 10 Most Popular Artiste” category. This move honours the intent behind the award, which was first introduced in 2023 to recognise emerging talent and provide a level playing field for newer artistes to be celebrated alongside peers at a similar stage in their careers. Graduating consistently popular rising stars into the main popularity race acknowledges their growing fan support, reflecting their natural progression within the industry.
To further support emerging talent, the eligibility criteria for “Best Rising Star” have also been refined to allow repeat nominations, as long as nominees continue to possess five years or less of experience and have not won in the same category. This change reflects the reality that every artiste’s trajectory unfolds at their own pace, makes space for promising talents to grow into their potential, and ensures the award remains a platform to spotlight their continued growth.
Voting for key popularity categories “Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes”, “Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes” and “Most Popular Rising Stars” is now open at www.mediacorp.sg/StarAwards and will run till 6 July. Meanwhile, voting for “Best Theme Song” will remain open till 15 June. In addition, voting for three MY PICK! Awards – “The Show Stealer”, “Favourite CP” and “Most Emotional Performance – as well as that presented by our partners, “Bioskin Most Charismatic Award”, “BYD Favourite Male Character Award” and “BYD Favourite Female Character Award” will run from 26 May to 15 June.
And this time, fans aren’t just crowning winners – they might emerge as one, too. Voters in the BYD “Favourite Character” categories will stand a chance to win a brand new BYD Sealion 7, an all-electric SUV valued at S$94,888. One winner will be selected via an electronic draw witnessed by independent auditors, taking them from cheering in the crowd to cruising in the spotlight.
