Tran Thi Ngoc Anh Hue crowned Singapore’s New Culinary Grand Champion after a triumphant win on King of Culinary – The Final Showdown

As the Grand Champion of Mediacorp’s first multi-platform and multi-language cooking competition, Hue walked away with $10,000 in cash prize and the coveted laser-etched King of Culinary Grand Champion knife.

Singapore, 4 December 2022 – After weeks of heated battles in 三把刀 (“San Ba Dao”) and King of Culinary – The Final Showdown, Tran Thi Ngoc Anh Hue, coined The Neighbourhood Gourmet Cook, has taken home the title of Singapore’s New Culinary Grand Champion! With Raja Kulinari winner Zakiyah Jaleel’s elimination in episode three, Hue and ராஜா கைய வச்சா (“Raja Kaiya Vecha”) winner Gopica ‘Rasathi’ Rasiah secured their spots in the Grand Finals. What ensued was a fiery final showdown between the two, with Hue ultimately winning the judges over with her intricate presentations and complex combination of flavours in her culinary masterpieces.

In the exhilarating Grand Finals that aired this evening, audiences witnessed a fierce 90-minute timed battle with both finalists striving to serve up a three-course meal that impressed the judges – Daniel Ang, Haikal Johari and Petrina Loh. With Sri Lankan Mud Crab as the main ingredient, Hue whipped up a symphony of dishes including Mangosteen Chicken Salad for appetisers, a Passion Fruits Crab main and Double Boiled Bird’s Nest with Pear for dessert, tying it together with an artistic presentation of a traditional crab trap. Meanwhile, Rasathi demonstrated her culinary calibre by creating luxuriously textured dishes consisting of a Crab Rasam appetiser, Masala Crab main and silky servings of Caramel Pudding for dessert.

Despite putting up a valiant fight with the harmonious use of spices in her dishes, Rasathi was edged out by Hue, whose meal was strongly influenced by traditional flavours and topped off with the incorporation of infrequently used natural ingredients such as Cowslip Creeper Flowers. Commending Hue for her culinary masterpiece, the judges recounted how she took them on a nostalgic journey through her comforting dishes. As the Grand Champion of King of Culinary, Hue walked away with $10,000 in cash prize and the coveted laser-etched King of Culinary Grand Champion knife!

Still digesting her recently clinched title as Singapore’s New Culinary Champion, Hue, 40, described her victory as “unreal”. The victorious homecook added: “I am elated with the results but, truthfully, winning was never my priority. King of Culinary was a riveting competition where I was given the opportunity to showcase my culinary skills and share my evergreen creations with others, which I was more than delighted to. To all homecooks, I hope you will also take the first step in chasing your culinary dreams.”

Extending her compliments and well wishes, Angeline Poh, Chief Customer & Corporate Development Officer, Mediacorp said: “Tonight, we were treated to a stunning showcase of culinary prowess as Hue was crowned Singapore’s New Culinary Grand Champion! Our congratulations to Hue who wowed us each week with her undeniable gastronomic gift. To Rasathi and Zakiyah, you put up great fights in the finale and we are all excited to see what you will be plating up next.”

Ms Poh added: “We hope audiences enjoyed our first serving of a multi-platform and multi-language cooking competition, which introduced reality series fans and foodies to the best amateur homecooks in Singapore. This journey would not have been possible without our judges, sponsors and partners; thank you for coming together to present this stellar season of King of Culinary.”
